RefreshWatch – Privacy Policy
Effective date: 12 October 2026
RefreshWatch ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that refreshes browser tabs on a timer and alerts you when a page changes. This policy explains what data it handles.
Summary
- We do not collect, sell, rent or share your personal data or browsing history.
- There are no analytics, ads, trackers or remote code.
- Your settings, alert history and watched-page snippets are stored only on your device.
Data stored on your device
- Timer settings: the tab, its URL, the interval, an optional CSS selector or keyword, and alert options. The URL is kept so the timer can resume after you restart Chrome.
- Change detection: a numeric fingerprint (hash) and up to 200 characters of the text in the region you chose to watch.
- Alert history (Pro): time, page URL, alert message and the same short text snippet, up to 500 entries. You can export it as CSV or clear it at any time.
- Push settings (Pro): the webhook URL and Telegram bot token/chat id you enter.
This data is stored in Chrome's extension storage (chrome.storage.local). It is removed when you stop a timer, clear the history, or uninstall the extension.
Data sent over the network
- Page reloads: the extension only reloads the tabs you choose.
- Your own push destinations (Pro, optional): if you set a webhook URL or a Telegram bot, each alert sends its message, page URL, selector/keyword and time to that destination, and nowhere else. Telegram's handling is covered by Telegram's privacy policy.
- Payments and licence check (Pro): payments and licence checks are handled by ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), with card payments processed by Stripe. To check your licence, the extension sends ExtensionPay a random identifier for this installation. If you buy or start a trial, ExtensionPay and Stripe receive the email and payment details you enter on their pages. We never see your card details. See ExtensionPay's privacy information and Stripe's privacy policy.
Permissions
RefreshWatch asks for access to a website only when you enable alerts or restart-restore for that site, and you can revoke it in chrome://extensions. Other permissions are used as follows:
- alarms: run the timers.
- storage: keep the data described above.
- scripting: read the watched region's text after each refresh.
- notifications: show alerts.
- offscreen: play the alert sound.
- activeTab: identify the tab you start a timer on.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
